Understanding the Tickets: The “Passport” is Key
The most common mistake visitors make is buying the wrong ticket. Versailles is a massive estate, not just one building.

Book Far in Advance: Do not wait until the week of your trip. Time slots for the Palace sell out weeks or even months in advance, especially from May to September.
Wear Comfortable Shoes: The estate is massive. The walk from the Palace to the Grand Trianon alone is about 25 minutes. You will easily walk 10-15 miles in a single day.
How to Get There: The easiest and cheapest way is by train. Take the RER C train from central Paris (stations like St-Michel Notre-Dame or Musée d’Orsay) in the direction of Versailles Château – Rive Gauche. This station is a short 10-minute walk from the palace gates.
Plan for the Whole Day: This is not a half-day trip. To see the Palace, explore the gardens, and visit the Trianon Estate, you need at least 5 to 7 hours. Pack snacks or plan for lunch on-site to save time.
