The Palace of Versailles is undoubtedly the most popular attraction in the town.
However, if you have a few more hours or even an extra day to spend in the town, there are plenty of activities to enjoy.
You can shop at the Notre Dame Market, visit the Lambinet Museum, or relax at the Arboretum de Chèvreloup.
Here’s how you can make the most of your time in Versailles.
Notre Dame Market

The Versailles Market, established almost 300 years ago during Louis XIV’s reign, offers a wide range of goods, such as fresh vegetables, fruits, cheese, and other food products, as well as non-food items like clothing and fabrics.
The covered market, Halles Notre-Dame, is open from 7 am to 1:30 pm and 3:00 pm to 7:30 pm Tuesday through Saturday. On Sundays, it operates from 7 am to 2 pm.
The open-air market, Carres Notre Dame, is open from 7:30 am to 2 pm on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays.
The non-food market is open from 11 am to 7:30 pm on Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday.

Musée Lambinet
The Lambinet Museum was built in the 18th century under King Louis XV.
The museum, which opened in 1932, focuses on life at Versailles in the 18th century, its history, and the French Revolution.
Enriched by purchases, donations, and bequests, the museum showcases a diverse collection of artworks from the Renaissance to the mid-20th century.
The exhibits on display in the Lambinet include paintings, sculptures, drawings, engravings, furniture, and curiosities.
It was awarded the title of ‘Musée de France’ in 2004, which is given to the country’s main state museums.
The museum opens at 12 pm on Wednesdays and Fridays and 10 am on Saturdays and Sundays. It closes at 7 pm on all days.
Lambinet Museum is closed on Mondays, Tuesdays, and select holidays.

Aqueduc de Buc
There is an interesting connection between Aqueduc de Buc and the Palace of Versailles.
This historic monument, 580 meters long and 28 meters high, was built as part of hydraulic facility to supply water to Palace Park.
Today, you can see the ancient Roman aqueduct ruins that were built between 1684 and 1686.
You can visit and enjoy this open space every day of the year.

Arboretum de Chèvreloup

The Arboretum de Chèvreloup spans over 200 hectares and is home to nearly 2,500 plant specimens, making it a perfect spot for nature lovers.
There are plenty of walking paths, making it a perfect spot for a leisurely hike or a peaceful picnic.
Some highlights include Chèvreloup Reservoir, Flower Meadows, Circle of Giants, Japanese Cherry Trees, and Oak Collection.
The botanical garden opens at 10 am all throughout the year. It closes at 6 pm from March to October and at 5 pm from November to February.
This attraction is closed on 1 May and from 25 December to 1 January.

Domaine de Madame Elisabeth
Louis XVI gifted the Domaine de Madame Elisabeth to his sister Elisabeth in 1783.
Located in the heart of Versailles, the buildings were built in Neoclassical style from 1784 to 1789.
Visit the circular chapel and summer refreshment bar and explore the beautiful gardens.
The Estate is open all year round, from Monday to Sunday.
The opening hours are from 11 am.
From 1 April to 30 September, the Elisabeth Estate closes by 8 pm.
From 1 October to 31 March, it shuts down at 6 pm.
