How to Reach Versailles Palace

Versailles Palace is located at Place d’Armes, 78000 Versailles, and you can reach it by train, bus, car, or private transport.

Versailles by Train

France has three railway systems—RER, SNCF, and metro. 

You can reach Versailles Palace from three train stations: Versailles Château – Rive Gauche(RER), Versailles Chantiers(SNCF), and Versailles Rive Droite (SNCF).

The most popular station is Versailles Château – Rive Gauche. To get there, take the RER Line C. 

You can board the train from various stops in Paris, starting from Paris Austerlitz. Don’t worry about missing your stop because Versailles Château – Rive Gauche is the last one.

Some popular stops along the way include Champ de Mars – Tour Eiffel, Invalides, Musée d’Orsay, Saint-Michel – Notre-Dame, Gare d’Austerlitz, Javel, and Pont de l’Alma.

The journey takes around 45 minutes. Once you reach the station, it’s a 10-minute walk to the Château de Versailles. The distance between the station and the palace is 1 km.

RER C Train Schedule 

From Paris to Versailles, the first train starts at 5.15 am, and the last train will be around 11.50 pm.

From Versailles to Paris, the first train will start at 5.15 am and the last at 11.50 pm. 

The RER C train operates with a high frequency, running every 15 to 20 minutes during peak hours and every 30 minutes during off-peak hours. 

The peak hours are 7 am to 9 am and 4.30 pm to 7.30 pm. The rest of the hours are off-peak.

Please check the timings and any changes in RER C. 

For those conscious of their budget, the RER C train offers a cost-effective solution. A single trip costs around €4, and a round-trip ticket is just €7.

SNCF Trains to Versailles

You can take SNCF Line N from Gare Montparnasse and get down at Versailles Chantiers train station. It takes an 18-minute walk to reach the Palace. 

Yet another option is to take the SNCF Line L from Paris Saint-Lazare and get off at Versailles Rive Droite train station. It takes a 17-minute walk to the Palace.

Please note that of the above three options, Versailles Château —Rive Gauche Train Station is nearest to the Palace Entry Gates. 

You don’t have any direct metro stations connecting to Versailles from Paris.

By Bus

You can board Bus line 171, which runs from Pont de Sèvres to Place d’Armes Versailles. It takes around 40 minutes to reach the Palace of Versailles.

The RATP bus departs every 15-20 minutes from Pont de Sèvres, the last stop on Paris metro line 9.

The journey costs €4 and takes about 40 minutes, with buses operating from 6 am to 12 am. 

The route includes stops at Pont de Sevres, Place Gabriel Peri, Atrium, Puits Sans Vin, Pointe de Chaville, Grace de Dieu, President Doumer, Porchefontaine, Vergennes, and Place d’Armes Versailles.

By Private Transport/Car

You can take the fastest route between Paris and Versailles via the N118 road. 

Start your journey in central Paris and head west along the Seine River, following the D910. 

Continue on this road until you reach the Pont de Sèvres bridge. 

Cross the bridge and stay to the left to merge onto the N118. 

Follow the signs along the N118, and you will reach the Palace of Versailles in 60 minutes. 

This route is straightforward and efficient, making it a convenient option for travelers.

Taking a taxi will cost you €35 to €60, depending on the time.
