The Palace of Versailles has five main dining options on-site: Angelina (tea room and pastries, on the first floor of the palace and at Petit Trianon), La Flottille (French cuisine by the Grand Canal, €6–€100), La Petite Venise (Italian-inspired, between the Apollo Fountain and Grand Canal), Ore by Ducasse (fine dining on the first floor of Dufour Pavilion, €5–€70), and Brasserie de la Girandole (budget-friendly, €2–€30, in the gardens). Picnics are permitted at two designated areas: Swiss Ornamental Lake and Saint Antoine Plain.
A full day at Versailles means you’ll be hungry — the estate is enormous and the walking adds up quickly. The good news is that there are several excellent dining options spread across the palace, gardens, and park, covering everything from a quick pastry and hot chocolate to a proper sit-down French meal. Here’s every option, with prices, locations, and tips on which suits your visit best.

Angelina — Tea Room & Pastries
Angelina is one of the most famous tea rooms in France, and its Versailles locations are among the most atmospheric places to eat on the estate. There are two branches: one on the first floor of the palace (accessible from the Royal Courtyard or at the end of the Grand Apartments tour), and one at the Petit Trianon with a garden terrace. The signature Angelina hot chocolate — thick, rich, and served with whipped cream — is unmissable.

La Flottille — French Cuisine by the Grand Canal
Located beside the Grand Canal in the Park of Versailles, La Flottille is the best option for a proper sit-down meal. The 1900s-style brasserie atmosphere and terrace overlooking the canal make it genuinely special, particularly on sunny afternoons. It offers a children’s menu (up to age 11) and can accommodate group events for up to 200 people.

Ore by Ducasse — Fine Dining at the Palace
Ore is Versailles’ finest restaurant, operated by legendary chef Alain Ducasse and located on the first floor of the Dufour Pavilion with views towards the Honour Courtyard. It’s the only restaurant on the estate that genuinely matches the grandeur of its surroundings — classic French dishes like foie gras, lobster bisque, and venison, served with jazz music in the background.
Ore offers separate menus for breakfast, lunch, tea, and dinner. The pistachio soufflé is the must-order dessert. Reservations are strongly recommended, particularly for lunch during peak season. A special Versailles Tour with Breakfast at Ore is also available, which combines dining with skip-the-line entry.

The hidden location means it’s rarely crowded even on the busiest days — most visitors walk straight past it. Surrounded by trees, it’s a pleasant spot for a quick break without leaving the garden circuit.

Picnics at Versailles
You’re welcome to bring your own food and drinks to Versailles and have a picnic in the Park. There are two designated picnic areas:
- Swiss Ornamental Lake — south of the formal gardens; scenic, grassy, popular with families. A beautiful spot for lunch with views across the water.
- Saint Antoine Plain — near the Saint Anthony Gate; more open and relaxed, with easy access from the Park.
Food and drinks are not permitted inside the palace or in the formal garden areas. Stock up before you arrive — the Versailles Market (Place du Marché Notre-Dame, 13-minute walk from the palace) is excellent for fresh produce, cheeses, bread, and pastries on Tuesday, Friday, and Sunday mornings.
Garden Kiosks
Throughout the gardens and park, particularly during high season, there are mobile kiosks and food carts selling ice cream, cold drinks, sandwiches, and snacks. These are perfect for a quick break without interrupting your garden walk. Expect to pay a small premium over Paris prices.
