The Palace of Versailles has free luggage lockers in the North Ministers’ Wing (max 46×43×26 cm), free toilets with baby changing at the South Ministers’ Wing (no ticket required), free mobile charging stations at the North and South Ministers’ Wings and Dufour Pavilion, free WiFi across the estate, and five shops. Lost property is taken to Entrance H; unclaimed items transfer to Versailles police station after 10 days.
The Palace of Versailles is well-equipped for a full day’s visit — but knowing where to find each facility in advance saves time and frustration once you’re inside. Here’s a complete guide to everything available on the estate.

Luggage Lockers
Free automatic luggage lockers are located in the North Ministers’ Wing in the Cour d’Honneur. Bags must not exceed 46 × 43 × 26 cm. Bags larger than 55 × 35 × 20 cm are not permitted inside the palace at all — so if you’re travelling with large luggage, you must use the lockers or cannot enter. No ticket is required to access the lockers; they are available to all visitors in the courtyard area.
Recommendation: travel light to Versailles. The estate involves extensive walking and you’ll cover 8–12 km across the full day — carrying a heavy bag compounds the effort considerably. Leave valuables like large amounts of cash and jewellery at your hotel.
Toilets and Baby Changing
Toilets with baby changing facilities are available at multiple points across the estate:
- South Ministers’ Wing (left side of Cour d’Honneur) — accessible without a ticket; useful before entry or on exit
- Gabriel Pavilion — near the main palace; note this location is not wheelchair accessible
- North Ministers’ Wing — in the Cour d’Honneur
- Dufour Pavilion — near Entrance A
- Queen’s Hamlet — at the Trianon Estate
- Grand Trianon — in the Chemin Creux Pavilion
- Petit Trianon — at the Petit Trianon entrance
All toilet locations (except Gabriel Pavilion) are wheelchair accessible. Emergency audio alarms and flashing beacons are fitted throughout. A defibrillator is available in the Chemin Creux Pavilion at the Grand Trianon for medical emergencies.
Free Water Points
Free drinking water points are located at five spots across the estate — useful on warm summer days in the gardens, where shade can be scarce:
- Near the South Ministers’ Wing in the Honour Courtyard
- Between the Grand Canal and Apollo’s Fountain in the Park
- Near the restrooms at the Grand Trianon
- Along the Dovercote at Queen’s Hamlet
- At the Water Sideboard Fountain in the Grand Trianon Gardens
Mobile Charging
Free mobile charging stations are located at the North Ministers’ Wing, South Ministers’ Wing, and Dufour Pavilion. They are compatible with all mobile device types. Make use of these before heading into the palace or gardens — a full day at Versailles using maps and the audio guide app will drain a battery quickly.
Free WiFi
Free WiFi is available throughout the Versailles estate, including the Honour Courtyard, Gardens, and Trianon Estate. To connect, open WiFi settings on your device and select the Orange WiFi network. No password is required.
If you’re using the official Versailles app for the audio guide, download and cache all content before your visit rather than relying on the estate WiFi — coverage can be inconsistent inside the palace rooms.
Audio Guide and Audio Phones
The audio guide is collected from the desk in the vestibule of the Dufour Pavilion (after Entrance A), available from 9 am. It is included free with your entry ticket. Return it to the ground floor of the Gabriel Pavilion — not back at the Dufour Pavilion.
A separate tool, the audio phone (audiophone), is used for guided group tours — a wireless headset that lets you hear your live guide clearly in crowded rooms. This is provided and managed by the tour operator for groups of 5 or more and is not the same as the self-guided audio guide.
Information Points
Information points are located at:
- North Ministers’ Wing — guided tour meeting point, subscriptions, mobility assistance
- South Ministers’ Wing — visitor information, drinking water, toilets
- Garden level of the Dufour Pavilion (after Entrance A) — maps, audio guides, visitor information
Free paper maps of the estate are available at the Dufour Pavilion information point.
Lost and Found
Any items found within the Versailles estate are taken to Entrance H at the palace. If your item is not collected within 10 days, it is transferred to the Versailles police station. Contact the palace directly if you believe you have lost something: +33 (0)1 30 83 78 00.
Smoking
Smoking is not permitted near museum areas, woodwork, or visitor barriers throughout the estate. Designated smoking areas exist outside the palace perimeter. E-cigarettes and vaping follow the same rules as cigarettes inside the buildings and museum zones.
Shops at Versailles
There are five shops on the Versailles estate, selling books, gifts, prints, clothing, accessories, and pastries:
| Shop | Location | Hours (High Season) |
| Shop of the Chapel | Royal Chapel | Tue–Sun: 9 am–4:45 pm |
| Librairie des Princes (Bookshop) | South Ministers’ Wing | Tue–Sun: 10:30 am–6:15 pm |
| Dufour Pavilion Shop | Palace basement (after Entrance A or at exit) | Daily: 10:15 am–6 pm |
| Laduree (pastries) | Foot of Queen’s Staircase, Royal Courtyard | 9:30 am–6:30 pm |
| Marble Courtyard Shop | After State Apartments tour | Tue–Sun: 10 am–5:45 pm |
Low season (November–March) hours are typically 30–60 minutes shorter. Angelina (hot chocolate and pastries) also operates two locations on the estate — see our restaurants guide for full details.
